Pattaya Police and a unit from The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were called to attend an apparent suicide of a foreigner at a condo complex in Central Pattaya.

At the scene Building A at Niran Grand Condo in Soi Arunothai they found the body of Mr. Philip Lee Atkins aged 62 a British national.

Mr. Atkins had sustained a broken arm and minor wounds and abrasions in the fall. He also had an electric cable tied around his neck. In his room on the 6th floor of the condo the police found more electric cables tied to the railings on the balcony. There were no signs of a struggle in the room or any indications of foul play involving any other persons.

At this stage the police are treating this as a suicide but can not be sure if Mr. Atkins died from the hanging or from the fall. His body was transported to hospital for a full forensic post mortem to be carried out.

Mr. Atkins had a hand written note in his pocket that if he was too die his brother Mr. Martin Watkins who lives in Phuket should be informed.

A neighbour said that recently Mr. Atkins had been in a distressed state and drinking heavily after his Thai wife had left him. She sid that the couple would often quarrell because she would often spend ectended time outside the apartment to hang out with her own group of friends.

As is the custom The British Embassy in Bangkok have been notified of the death of one of it's nationals.
