Khun Rankit Ekasing the Deputy Mayor of Pattaya presided over a preparatory meeting at Pattaya City Hall to discuss plans for what must be the major event of the year in Pattaya which will no doubt provide the largest income stream for local businesses and for Pattaya City Hall coffers as well as well as a traffic jam that for any normal event in Pattaya would last a few hours is sure to last almost a week.
The event of course is Songkran the day when Thais go stark raving bonkers and foreigners travel half way around the world to join in the May madness to aceive true international dickhead status.
May the 19th is the day scheduled for activities to take place. Expect that any time 5 days before and 5 days after will be the bonanza days for mobile phone sellers at Tuk.com who will no doubt replace thousands of communication devices and replace positive balances on their bank accounts.
Activities planned for this year include: Foam Parties, Pretty Girl contests, Wet tee shirt contests, Pretty girl wet tee shirt contests, ugly girl tee shirt contests, Concerts by famous artists and sliding motorcycles in a spectacular way contests followed by a painting plaster cast contest.
After the disastrous tourist arrivals of the high season and a low season that was even more disastrous the arrival of tens of thousands of backpackers spending their money on budget accommodationm plastic squirters and copious amounts of alcohol from 7-eleven's will be a welcome if temporary relief.
