Chonburi Buffalo Racing Festival

At the Baan Bung market in Chonburi Khun Sonthana the Minister of Culture presided over the opening ceremony of the Baan Bung Buffalo Festival.

He welcomed the many tourists and competitors and participants who had travelled from all over Thailand for this long standing event that showcases the prowess and beauty of the noble animal the Buffalo which hold such a prominent place in the hearts of most Thais.

The Festival will see of course many fine beasts competing in different races for the title of fastest buffalo and also buffalo beauty completions for such titles as best male buffalo, best female buffalo, best buffalo calf and best albino buffalo.

For the opening parade monks came along to bless the buffaloes, a buffalo fancy dress competition was held and also a singing competition however it is not known whether this was for the buffaloes or for their proud owners.

So next time you hear the words. My Papa's Buffalo is sick then take notice he could be a prize winner, the buffalo of course not the father.

Pattaya United Fans Riot

On Sunday night the 27th of October at the Nong Prue Municipality Sports Stadium there was a crunch match in the Toyota Thailand Premier Football League where Pattaya United played host to Chiang Rai United.

What was not welcomed was what resulted at the end of the match when Pattaya United succumbed to a penalty kick in the 67th minute which resulted in a 0-1 defeat for the local team who face almost certain relegation at the end of the season.

At the end of the match about 2,000 disgruntled Pattaya United fans invaded the field and a riot broke with their fury targetted at the referee and the Pattaya United team coach Khun Nitipoom.

The Head Coach Khun Nitipoom who was able to disguise himself as a Police Officers and sneak out of the stadium without being hurt. Beer cans, water bottles were turned into missiles. The referee was rescued by some of the 100 Pattaya police and military police officers on duty.

The riot ended when the crowd dispersed after about an hour. Although serious damage was sustained by the stadium no arrests were made and a further penalty may be kicked in Pattaya United's direction when an inquiry into the fan's behavior is made by the football league authorities.

The whereabouts of the Head coach is as yet unknown and the referee who virtually gave the match to Chiang Rai United by awarding the late penalty is said to be enjoying a well earned all expenses holiday on the banks of the river Mekong in the north of Thailand.

Iranian Child Mollester Arrested in Pattaya

In the early hours of Monday mornining Pattaya police Leutenant Kwanchai was called to The Ibis Hotel on soi 1 in Central Pattaya after an Iranian tourist had been detained by security guards for molesting a 13 year old girl.

The young lady, her name was not given for obvious reasons, had been asked by her mother to go up to their hotel room on the fourth floor to collect the family's pet dog that was sick and needed to be taken to see a vet.

On the way back down the lift stopped on the third floor and the Iranian tourist Mr. Amin Azizi aged 29 entered the lift. He at first stroked the dog and then pinned her in a corner of the lift, tried to embrace her and then proceeded to try to molest her. The lift was soon down to the ground floor and she ran to her mother who was waiting for her in the lobby.

Security guards were informed who grabbed the Iranian and held him until police arrived on scene. Police are investigating and expect charges to be filed shortly.

Indian Tourist in Pattaya Changes Story

Pattaya Police seem to be finally wising up to the tourist insurance fraud scam. Pattaya police have had to cope for a long time with muggings and robberies especially on Beach Road and especially allegedly committed by ladboys. There is no doubt that these crimes do happen but when tourists report ficticious criminal activities purely for the sake of getting a police report so that they can make a claim when they get home it causes a severe drain on police time and resources that could be better used investigating real crimes and bringing real criminals to book.

On Monday the 28th of October an Indian tourist Mr. Sushil Eumar aged 57 presented himself at Pattaya Police Station claiming to have been robbed of a 22kt gold necklace and pendant worth approximately a million Baht. The robbery, he said, took place as he took a stroll along beach road and was surrounded by a bunch of three lady boys who relieved him of his family jewels, the necklace and pendant of course.

Police showed him a book of mug shots of known he/she robbers but Mr. Eumar was not able to identify any of the thieves.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Chuangchote was not convinced by the tourist's story. After all a million Baht gold necklace is not an everyday item and being worn by a tourist especially an Indian tourist whilst strolling along Pattaya Beach Road promenade well is just a tad unlikely.

He was warned that if he was lying he could be charges with a crime himself and have could end up having an extra holiday free of charge at the Pattaya Police Hilton.

Mr. Eumar tried to save face and did not want to accept the policeman's kind offer of free accommodation so he changed his story and now thinks he must have dropped it somewhere. At the moment the police are not pressing any charges until their investigations are complete.

It seems as though Pattya police have taken my advice and are looking to the heavens for inspiration and taking a look over Pattaya Bay to see if there are any pigs making a fly by before accepting anymore dubious crime reports from down and out tourist scammers.

Russian Tourists in Pattaya Clocked

A word of warning to tourists looking to buy watches in Pattaya. You had better WATCH OUT The bargain you are looking for could get you more than you bargained for.

A group of Russian tourists browsing the stalls of a tourist souvenir mecca near Soi Skaaw Beach on second road clocked what they thought were some really fine brand name timepieces. So they thought they would take some time to peruse the wares.

A particularly fine watch needed a second look and the salesman was persuasive that this was the right time to buy a genuine fake watch. The Russian thought this could be hours if the price is right but what about a guarantee. Of course sir this watch is guaranteed to be a real fake, guaranteed waterproof, guaranteed shockproof, guaranteed burglarproof and probably 100% proof Vodka proof.

The Russian tourist Mr. Andrey Pratasov thought that he was being wound up and without a second thought dropped the watch into a nearby glass of water. Whoops wrong movement. This is when he found out that a Thai guarantee has no time limit. Just a guarantee that a watch will work fine up to the moment that it doesn't work at which time the guarantee is not as waterproof as first claimed.

You break it you buy it was a phrase that didn't translate well into Russian and Mr. Pratasov decided that this was the time to decline the offer and the right time to make a movement to exit.

Wrong decision he was then clocked, and clocked again time after time after time receiving a severe beating, bruises and lacerations to his face by the watch vendor and his band of strapping mates.

The Russian's mates in turn acted in a timely manner and called in the police who by the time they arrived found that the watch sellers had another day and date lined up elsewhere and had disappeared.

The police were alarmed that this could happen at this time in the fine city of Pattaya. The police examined CCTV cameras that showed that the attack had indeed taken place on the day and date that was claimed and assured the battered Russian that they would not lose a single second on this watch case and would follow up and find the villains, prosecute them and make sure that if found guilty they would certainly serve time for their crime.

A press conference was held to announce the results of recent efforts in Pattaya to collect donations for flood relief for the victims of recent heavy rain and flooding in Prachinburi province.

Mr Wuttisak the Deputy Mayor of Pattaya along with Ms Phanee the Director of Social Development in Pattaya jointly announced that the recent efforts to collect flood relief supplies at collection points across the city had netted a total of goods and cash to the tune of 70,000 Baht.

Nongprue East Pattaya Flood Aid

The Nongprue Municipal offices was the venue for a group of dignitaries and council officials to gather together to accept donations destined to be dispatched to help victims who are struggling to cope after a more severe than normal monsoon season has brought flooding to many parts of Thailand.

There were many folks who came along to donate food, day to day supplies and cash. Just one of the many donors to turn up was Khun Anya from the Daiartee Bar in Soi Nernbplubwan who brought along goods that had been collected at her establishment.

The donated items such as rice, noodles , water, canned food will be packaged up and then transported to be handed out to families affected by the flooding.

Sattahip Crazy Drugs Donation

Donation centres have been set up all over the region to collect essential items like food and clothing and daily necessities to help the flood victims who are struggling to survive after the recent spell of heavy rains.

The general public have responded admirably. Sometimes the folks donate items, sometimes they donate money. On Saturday morning the 14th of October a most unusual donation was made at a centre in Sattahip. A guy walking in and donated a bag containing 11 Yaa Baa tablets (Methamphetamine tablets) and suggested that they sell the tablets, value about 3,000 Baht and use the money for flood relief aid.

Volunteers were understandably flabbergasted ad the authorities were notified. Drug suppression agents from the local Thai naval base promptly came along and arrested a Mr. Jakrukat aged 39. It seems that Mr. Jakrukat had already consumed several tablets that morning of Yaa Baa or the crazy drug if one uses the literal translation, which prompted him into having the crazy idea of making this crazy donation.

Mr. Jakrukat, who already has form and has served time for drug trafficking gave up the name of his supplier Khun Jumlong who dealt out of the Map Ta Put Industrial Area in Rayong Province. He is currently helping the agents with their enquiries. The agents raided Mr. Jakrukat's home but found no more drugs. The only thing of interest was a .38 calibre gun and ammunition which were duly confiscated and certainly not donated to help in relief for the flood victims.

Firework Truck Blaze on the Bangn-Trat Highway Near Pattaya

A potential disaster was averted by the hard work of brave fire fighters who tackled a blaze that had engulfed a truck carrying fireworks and firecrackers at a toll booth on the Bangn-Trat Highway.

The 18 wheel truck had pulled up to the toll booth to pay the toll when the cashier Miss Sirirat aged 29  noticed smoke coming from a back wheel on the truck. She told the driver of the Hino truck who moved away from the toll booth and parked up on the left just past the toll gates.

The wheel immediately burst into flames. The fire spread quickly to the main body of the vehicle and it's explosive cargo. The driver got his wife out of the cab and attempted to tackle the rapidly spreading flames with a fire extinguisher. But had to back off as the fire took hold.

Ten Fire engines were soon on the scene and they worked diligently to bring the fire under control. It took more than two hours to finally put out the fire and end the risk of a major explosion taking place.

On Sunday afternoon the 13th of October a young Chinese tourist Miss Su Lan aged 21 appears to have got cramps whilst swimming and drowned off Tawan Beach on Koh Larn Island, which is situated about 4kms off the coast of Pattaya.

Miss Su Lan was part of a tour group of Chinese tourists who had gone to the island that morning to enjoy the beaches and water sports that are a major tourist attraction for Pattaya.

Mr. Chang Liu aged 38, a tour guide, took 35 Chinese Tourists to the Island on Sunday morning. He said that Miss Su Lan went swimming and got into difficulties about 30 meters from the beach. Other people in the water and on the beach heard her shouting for help but she went under and drowned before anyone could reach her.

Chonburi police were called in by a rescue Foundation unit who had found a dead man inside a vehicle. The police found an Isuzu vehicle with the driver slumped in the driver's seat. What we don't possibly realise id that the foundation plays a major role in charitable works in the Pattaya area taken care as best they can of those less fortunate or suffering from some disaster.

The recent heavy rains in Pattaya have left many families short of food and basic essentials. Khun Prasit the president of the Sawang Boriboon Foundation organised a new task for his rescue units. He and volunteer workers had put together 2,000 aid packages containing food and bottles of water. and loaded up to be delivered to vthe victims of serious flash  flooding that had left many families stranded in the Phanatnikhom district of Chonburi.

Three cheers for Khun Prasit and the volunteer workers of the Sawang Boriboon Foundation.

Sriracha Suicide Jumper

Sriracha policed received a report that there appeared to be a man about to commit suicide on a bridge over a main road in their district.

They rushed to the scene along with a unit from the Sawang Prathip Rescue Foundation. Unfortunately they were too late. He had jumped and dropped to the road 6 meters below. He was still alive but had suffered serious injuries with a broken arm, broken leg and more importantly a broken neck. Medics from the rescue unit and from a medical team dispatched from Sriracha hospital did what they could for him and then transported him still in a serious condition to Sriracha hospital. The injured man was a Khun Saksit aged 50 who owns a local gift shop.

A witness said that he had seen the man who lingered on the bridge for about 5 minutes and seemed to be in a depressed state. Some local people were also concerned and they had called the police but too late as the man climbed onto the parapet and then fell to the ground.

Police made enquiries at the man's home where neighbours said that he seemed to be having family problems and that his wife had left the house a few days before and not returned.

Police also had footage from a CCTV camera on the bridge that had recorded the incident. Unfortunately Khun Saksit didn't make it. He succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the fall and died in hospital.

Jomtien Pattaya Drugs Dealing Motorcycle Taxi Rider

At 6am on the 7th of October Police Captain Nethiton of the Pattaya Police was patrolling Jomtien Beach Road near View Talay 8 when he spotted some motorcycle taxi drivers parked up at their taxi stand looking more suspicious than they normally look. Looking suspicious is enough reason to go take a look see. As they approached one of the guys tried to do a runner by jumping on his bike and riding off.

The escaping rider was no match for Police Captain Valentino Rossi who soon caught up with the erstwhile moped rider who was still clutching a plastic bag in his left hand containing 10 Yaa Baa (Methamphetamine tablets)

Khun Pornsuk aged 28 was arrested and said that business was bad and he had turned to delivering drugs as well as passengers to make ends meet. Now his shift was over and he will be spending his next shift in police cells awaiting a court hearing for possession and distribution of a class 2 illegal narcotic substance.

Two Indian Tourists Robbed in Pattaya

In the early hours of the 7th of October Police Captain Chaliaw an investigating police officer at Pattaya police station listened to a sorry story from an irate Indian tourist who had made his own way to the police station to report a robbery on Beach Road.

Mr. Karthikeyan Krishnan aged 37 told the police officer that he was walking along Beach Road with a friend near Soi 13 when much to their surprise they were solicited by a Thai woman offering sexual services. A price of 1,000 Baht was agreed on He did not elaborate whether this was per person or for a group booking. She then said that a car would take them to their hotel as part of the service. She made a call and soon after a Black car pulled up and two Thai men asked them to get into the car.

As soon as they were in the car it drove off and the Thai men threatened them with some kind of pointy weapon and relieved them of their wallets, State Bank of India credit card, passports and travel tickets and cash. One man had 600US$ the other 400US$ total taken 1,000US$

The car drove around for a while somewhere on Pattaya Second road and then he was kicked out of the car which then drove off with his friend still inside.

As he was giving his report his friend Mr. Khader Basha aged 40 turned up at the police station with a mud splattered shirt. He said that the kidnappers had thrown him out of the car somewhere on Sukhumvit Road and had wandered around for about 15 minutes before asking some locals and making his way to the Pattaya Memorial Hospital and then on to the police station.

Police took the poor, now poorer Indian tourists tale as evidence and said they would take a look at the CCTV Cameras on Beach Road to see if they could identify the robbery gang and vehicle that was involved and would prosecute them with the full force of Thai law.

The Indian tourists left the police Station clutching the police report that will be needed so that they can make an insurance claim when they get home.

A little tip for The Pattaya Police. They should position a CCTV camera on Beach Road pointing skywards and have an officer constantly monitoring the footage. Then as soon as they see a pig flying over Pattaya Bay they can send a task force out there to stop a crime from even happening.

Belgian, Ladyboy, Young Kid Involved in Pattaya Road Accident

At 5.30 am on the 7th of October Police Lieutenant Nakhonrat received a report of a road accident involving injuries in front of the Seat Boat Company. He went immediately to the scene along with a unit of the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation to provide assistance.

The other motorcycle was bring ridden by a young 13 year old boy Khun Supat who had a collarbone injury and was taken to Banglamung Hospital further attention to his injuries.

A witness to the accident Khun Niyom aged 44 said that he saw the young boy accelerate to overtake a overtake a truck when he collided with the bike driven by the farang that was going at a high speed.

After inspection and thorough investigation of the scene and then photographing it as evidence the police will have to decide if it is the farang's fault as is the norm or the young boy who clearly should not have been riding the motorcycle in the first place.
