A word of warning to tourists looking to buy watches in Pattaya. You had better WATCH OUT The bargain you are looking for could get you more than you bargained for.
A group of Russian tourists browsing the stalls of a tourist souvenir mecca near Soi Skaaw Beach on second road clocked what they thought were some really fine brand name timepieces. So they thought they would take some time to peruse the wares.
A particularly fine watch needed a second look and the salesman was persuasive that this was the right time to buy a genuine fake watch. The Russian thought this could be hours if the price is right but what about a guarantee. Of course sir this watch is guaranteed to be a real fake, guaranteed waterproof, guaranteed shockproof, guaranteed burglarproof and probably 100% proof Vodka proof.
The Russian tourist Mr. Andrey Pratasov thought that he was being wound up and without a second thought dropped the watch into a nearby glass of water. Whoops wrong movement. This is when he found out that a Thai guarantee has no time limit. Just a guarantee that a watch will work fine up to the moment that it doesn't work at which time the guarantee is not as waterproof as first claimed.
You break it you buy it was a phrase that didn't translate well into Russian and Mr. Pratasov decided that this was the time to decline the offer and the right time to make a movement to exit.
Wrong decision he was then clocked, and clocked again time after time after time receiving a severe beating, bruises and lacerations to his face by the watch vendor and his band of strapping mates.
The Russian's mates in turn acted in a timely manner and called in the police who by the time they arrived found that the watch sellers had another day and date lined up elsewhere and had disappeared.
The police were alarmed that this could happen at this time in the fine city of Pattaya. The police examined CCTV cameras that showed that the attack had indeed taken place on the day and date that was claimed and assured the battered Russian that they would not lose a single second on this watch case and would follow up and find the villains, prosecute them and make sure that if found guilty they would certainly serve time for their crime.
