Pattaya ATM Robbers

It seems that a group of Thai gentlemen driving along Sukhumvit road in a black Isuzu Pick-Up truck around 2am realised that they didn't have enough money for a night out. They spotted a lonely Siam Commercial ATM machine on the forecourt of a concrete company.

Nope no one had an ATM card on them. Not to be deterred they donned balaclavas they just happened to have in the glove box to keep them warm in the cool night air. One of them kept the engine running, two just stood around whistling whilst the other grabbed a bag of tools that just happened to be in the back of the pick-up truck and made a small withdrawal of around 2 million Baht after he had managed to remove the back plate of the money machine.

They were interrupted by a security guard who had smelt a burning smell and woke up just in time. He wandered over to the truck and asked the gentlemen what they were doing. It was fairly clear however to the smart security guard that the gentlemen were just doing a bit of overtime and were taking two metal cash boxes away for cleaning.

Khun Paitoon aged 42 the security guard then thought something could be amiss as the gentlemen drove off at high speed with not a single ratri sawat. He called the police who found the wrecked rear of the ATM and the security camera pointing skywards no doubt set to look for pigs flying over Jomtien.

Have you ever cursed when the ATM dispenses only 20,000 Baht at a time or even worse still dispenses nothing and eats your card well there is a way............

Russian Gropes Woman on Walking Street Pattaya

A 36 year old woman from Kalasin Province was strolling along Walking Street in South Pattaya accompanied by her 11 year old daughter when she alleges that a foreigner came up to her and groped her breasts. She shouted out in indignation but the tourist just walked off. Her shouts were heard by other tourists on the street and also by police officers who were on patrol in the vicinity.

Police detained a rather sozzled former citizen of the Soviet Union a Russian national Mr. Ildar Valeshev. He thought it was funny - the police did not. They hauled him off to Pattaya Police Station and are looking to find CCTV images that may show what happened.

I have no sympathy with the Russian - he is totally out of order but why oh why is a women out in an area like Walking Street in the early hours of the morning with her 11 year old daughter in tow.

Japanese Visitor to Pattaya has 5 Baht Gold Necklace Snatched

There has been a disturbing increase in gold necklace snatches over the Songkran period. It has been suggested that criminals have been looking to mug foreigners to buy whisky to lubricate their celebrations.

The latest victim was a Japanese businessman on holiday from his job in Bangkok. Mr. Seiji Matsuzaki aged 69, a Director of a company in Bangkok which manufactures Automotive Parts. Mr. Matsuzaki was walking from Tesco Lotus in North Pattaya to The Peace Resort also in North Pattaya late in the evening wearing a 5 Baht Gold necklace with Buddha amulets worth around 100,000 Baht when three Thai guys on two motorcycles drew up and one of the Thai guys snatched his necklace and then the gang rode off.

Police have images from CCTV cameras at the scene which give blurry images of the robbers and their Honda Wave motorcycle but unfortunately did not catch the actual snatching incident.

It is unsure whether their is only one gang operating this type of crime in Pattaya or many gangs. What is for sure is that 100,000 Baht will buy an awful lot of whisky.

Sattahip Songkran Drugs Bust

Khun Phawat The Sherrif of Sattahip after his day off celebrating Songkran at Nong Nooch Tropical Gardens in Pattaya was back on the job and accompanied by his Stirling squad of drug suppression agents were out on the hunt for more pushers of these illegal pharmaceuticals.

The target today were a middle aged couple Khun Banyong aged 54 and his wife Khun Lawan aged 50.

The couple had been spotted selling drugs and asting operation was arranged. Undercover agents arranged to buy a couple of Yaa Baa (Methamphetamine Tablets) However the pair got spooked and made a fast exit tossing a plastic bottle containing 8 tablets into the bushes. The agents were able to effect an arrest and recover the discarded drugs.

They eventually confessed to supplying a class 1 narcotic substance. A visit to their home in Plutaluang, Sattahip found another 82 tablets of Yaa Baa hidden on a shelf.

I wonder if they get to celebrate Songkran in prison. Can't be as much fun as on the outside.

Gold Necklace Snatch Foiled By Chinese Tourists in North Pattaya

Last week Police top brass held a parade to rally the troops in preparation for The Songkran Mayhem in Pattaya. Their task to keep the city, the locals and especially the foreign tourists, whose tourist dollars fuel the local economy, safe.

More tourists in Pattaya mean more targets for the lazy members of society who see committing crime much easier than doing a hard days graft.

A group of 10 Chinese tourists who had hired two Baht buses to take them to North Pattaya unknowingly made themselves a lucrative target as they traveled along Sukhumvit Road. One of them was sporting a large 3 Baht gold necklace with a fancy jade ornament.

Thieves on two motorcycles had spotted their mark, pulled alongside the Baht bus and attempted to snatch the necklace from around the neck of Mr. Ten Chin Lan aged 35. The tourist resisted the attempt and he and his fellow travelers dismounted the Baht bus and dismounted the thieving snatchers - holding them until the police arrived.

Khun Pirapon aged 18 was arrested for highway robbery and two other suspects have been earmarked to be mopped up later.

More Pattaya Drink Drive Checkpoints

Songkran is a one day event - or should be. In Pattaya this is stretched to around 10 days. The police have designated a period of 7 most dangerous days on the road when the majority of the carnage occurs.

Police checkpoints are being set up daily and mainly nightly when the drunken idiots head off home after an evening of fun, frolics and alcoholic fizzy drinks.

Nearing the end of the week but they don't seem to have got the message or have got it but don't care one iota. A traffic checkpoint between 3 am and 6 am at the traffic lights of Pattaya Third Road and South Pattaya Road netted 40 over the limit inebriated idiots mainly motorcyclists.

With heavy fines and a free bed in the police cells whilst these sozzled citizens sober up they will all learn a valuable lesson and never drink and drive again. Well not until the next time of course.

Pattaya Police Save Drain Cover from Thieves

Pattaya Municipal Council workers called in the police after they spotted thieves trying to make off with a rather large cast iron drain cover.

Pattaya Police officers arrived at the scene in Soi 8 Naklua to find two diminutive Thai men and one large cast iron drain cover. The metal cover was weighing in at about 150Kg and one meter wide. the two Thai men a little over one meter tall and about 50Kg each wet through. They had already loaded their haul onto a motorcycle sidecar combo and were just catching  before driving off - they were pretty well drained after the exertion of removing and loading the drain cover.

There was another co-conspiritor but he had done a runner when the plod showed up - he was caught and charged later. The two men arrested at the scene of the theft were: Khun Prapat aged 42 and Khun Tawee aged 43.

They told the police that they had stolen the cover to sell for scrap to raise money to buy whiskey to celebrate Songkran. It would have been poetic justice if they had gotton away with their thieving idea, bought the whisky, got drunk, and then drove down the hole they had left in the street.

Cambodian Songkran Reveller Falls off Motorcycle in Sriracha

Just one of the many Songkran related motorcycle accidents that occurred over the Songkran period. The victim survived - just. His stupid  antics sadly typical and the consequences not really surprising.

A unit of The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were called to attend an accident in Sriracha. At the scene they found an overturned Honda Smile motorcycle and it's unsmiling Cambodian rider sprawled in the road.

He needed medical attention at the scene and was then taken to Leam Chabang Hospital for further emergency treatment.

Witnesses to the accident said that they saw the man riding one handed prior to him falling off. His friends confirmed that he had to drive with one hand to leave his other hand free to squirt water as he rode. Words fail me.

Early Songkran Mayhem in Pattaya

Pattaya soi's 6,7 and 8 made an early start to the Songkran festivities with wet em whakhos bringing the areas roads to a soggy standstill with cars and motorcycles driving tentatively with drivers who were as yet still fairly sober.

Soi's 7 and 8 which coincidentally are close together joining Pattaya Second Road to Beach Road is a well known bar area with many hotels so the revellers need show little effort between their beds and their favourite bars. With this area being cleared of drinking establishments and more hotels being erected I'm not sure if this muddled mix of Songkran mayhem will endure for many more Songkran seasons

As for soi 6 well I am not sure where it is - honest

Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya Somgkran Celebrations

As far as celebrating Songkran my award goes to the Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya who managed to combine the traditional ways of the beautiful Songkran festival with the out of control idiotic frenzy that draws tourists from all over the world to the LOS - Land of Soakings.

In the morning monks were invited to carry out the gentle and respectful traditional Thai Songkran activity of sprinkling refreshing water a few drops at a time on the hands of elderly citizens.

In the afternoon a frenzied foam party engulfed the swimming pool area with activities that could only be conducted once the monks had retired back to their temple.

In the evening a delightdul and tasty BBQ buffet was laid on with emphasis on Asian dishes and Seafood specialities.

My kind of day - Invite next year please.

Pattaya Drink Driving Checkpoints Over Songkran

This year Pattaya Police were quite vocal in their warnings that they would be running a strict anti drink driving campaign during the Songkran period. They planned to schedule more police officers and police volunteers to man more traffic checkpoints and a zero tolerance to anyone caught  with an over the limit alcohol reading to their Breathalyzer tests.

The dangerous period is not over yet so it is difficult to assess the results. However the police are issuing daily reports giving figures for arrests made at certain checkpoints.

A traffic stop on Pattaya Third Road between 3 and 6am netted 30 over the limit idiots who face stiff fines after their stiff drinks. On this particular night there were reports of many road accidents, mainly motorcycle accidents with only one resulting in death. Sounds like pretty much the norm for Pattaya roads Songkran or not.

Rape and Injuries at Cambodian Workers Camp in Pattaya

Pattaya Police and a unit of The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were called to attend a construction site after reports of a fight and serious injuries being sustained.

At the scene of a construction camp for Cambodian workers in Soi 7 near Wat Bunyakarn they found a worker Mr. Jan aged 30 who had sustained deep slash wounds to his left arm and was bleeding profusely. Medics on scene administered first aid and then rushed the man to Banglamung Hospital.

The police also found a Mr. Somchai aged 26 weilding a bloody cleaver that he had used to severely injure his fellow co-worker. From their investigations they found out that Mr. Jan and Mr. Somchai were close friends that is up to this night when Mr. Somchai returned home to find Mr. Jan raping his wife. Mr. Somchai in a rage picked up a meat cleaver and attacked his friend.

Ms Hai, the wife of the attacker was in shock but was able to give a statement to the police. She said that this was not the first time that Mr. Jan had raped her. He would often come to the room in a drunken state to rape her but she was in fear for her life as he had warned her not to tell anyone of his assaults.

The police will need to talk to Mr Jan when he is in a fit state to give an interview to hear his side of the story.

Drunken Driver Kills Motorcyclist in Na Jomtien, Pattaya Then Flees

In the early hours of the morning Pattaya Police from Dongtan sub-station were called to attend a serious road accident involving one fatality.

At the scene on Sukhumvit road near the entrance to Na Jomtien Soi 2 they found a wrecked motorcycle and the body of it's owner Khun Seri aged 50. Mr Seri had been struck by a car and had sustained multiple injuries including a fractured skull as he was riding his motorcycle to start his early shift as a cook at a Pattaya hotel.

Witnesses who had seen the crash said that they had seen a Honda Civic vehicle strike the motorcycle. There was a male driving accompanied by a woman passenger. The vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene.

The police immediately sent out an alert on the radio and were able to spot the vehicle that was stopped at a set of traffic lights several Km from the scene of the accident. When police approached the vehicle the driver got out and did a runner leaving his female passenger to face the music.

The police were able to catch the driver Khun Chatchai aged 46 and detain him. Khun Chatchai who claimed to work at the immigration office at Suvarnabhumi Airport appeared drunk but refused to take a Breathalyzer test.

Khun Chatchai was arrested and taken to the police station for further interviews. His vehicle which showed accident damage was seized for evidence.

At the police station he continued to refuse to be tested for alcohol consumption and was then confronted by several relatives of the deceased who made an angry scene as the police interviewed Khun Chatchai to get his version of what had happened to cause the death of the 50 year old cook.

Nong Nooch Tropical Garden Pattaya Maha Songkran with Blooming Flower

The Mayor of Pattaya Khun Itthipol presided over the opening ceremony at Nong nooch Tropical Garden at Na Jomtien to mark the start of one of the largest money making events of the year for the Nong Nooch and for Pattaya - Songkran.

Joining Khun Itthpol was Khun Phawat The Sherrif of Sattahip who took a day off chasing drug suspects in the region and Khun Kampol the Director of Nong Nooch Tropical Gardens.

the Songkran festival at Nong Nooch gardens 2014 has been named "Maha Songkran with Blooming Flowers" and aims to show off a fusion of traditional Songkran culture along with the more modern methods of soaking people to the skin with high pressure hoses and a soaking with a Nong nuch touch a whole herd of elephants trained specially for this weeks events using their trunks to spray visitors with water.

So if you fancy making a trunk call and want to leave your phone at home then Nong Nooch Tropical Gardens should wet your appetite for the season of complete idiocy known in Thailand as Songkran.

City Garden Group Pattaya Songkran Pool Party

There is a sharp end to media in Pattaya and a blunt end to the media in Pattaya.

At the sharp end reporters get out there to do what they do best report the news and enjoy the not too infrequent media events laid on by Pattaya businesses to thank the media for attending their events. And at the blunt end the folks like me who sit in the office and cut together the stories that you are seeing on your screens.

Khun Yeger Yota The managing director of City Garden Group also known as The Global Top Group made his way to The  Mercure Hotel Pattaya to preside over the opening splashes of a customer appreciation pool party.

Customers, hotel staff and yes members of the media were given the chance to enjoy Songkran activities, sample the fine food flee flowing beverages and cocktails and yes get wet in the pool sometimes all at the same time.

I want to get out on the sharp end - sometimes

Samsung Cucumber Delivery at Chonburi Prison

While the cats away the inmates will play. Songkran is the time when millions of Thais are given some time off work or simply don't turn up at all to travel upcountry to participate in the drenching of relatives, friends and even people who are not friends oh and yes consuming copious amounts of alcohol.

There are some whoever who choose not to return home by committing offences and spending this holiday season as well as sometimes many holiday seasons locked up in jails.

Chonburi police were called in to investigate a smuggling operation at Chonburi prison. Prison guards had stopped a Toyota Vigo pick-up truck carrying cucumbers going into the prison and rummaged through the veggies on display. The cucumbers looked succulent and freshly picked - however amongst the innocent merchandise were a number of mobile phones that would fetch good money on the prison black market certainly more than the cucumbers for sure.

The inmates were obviously upset at not being able to go home for Songkran so of course all they needed was a chance to call home.

Chonburi Prison is a hive of iniquity - yes there are a lot of criminals inside and the true use of the mobile devices was more than likely to arrange lucrative drug deals. And why were Chonburi police called in. Well appears many of the prison staff had gone upcountry and they were severely short handed.

Songkran Pattaya Drunk Driving Crack Down

Songkran in Pattaya is the time to get wet, whether you want to or not, whether you like it or not. Visitors to Pattaya are used to getting wet regularly - getting wet regularly on the inside with the consumption of copious amounts of beer.

Beware on two counts. Firstly Thais love to use Songkran as a chance to bring out their basic instincts of throwing water about, consuming large amounts of alcoholic beverages and rushing around like crazy nutters on motorcycles.

Now is NOT the time to be drinking and driving. If you are lucky enough not to become a statistic in this years death and carnage register you are very likely to be caught in one of the many roadside checkpoints that the fine local constabulary have set up all over Pattaya to look for car drivers not wearing helmets, motorcyclists not using their seat belts. and of course those who are drunk but not so drunk that they have already fallen off their machines.

The police statistics are rapidly clicking up with dozens of revellers arrested at just one check point outside Wat Chai Mongkol in South Pattaya and Chonburi authorities declaring the region a no drink and drive war zone.

Enjoy Songkran and go daft with the water by all means but don't be daft and stupid at the same time by trying to drive home while under the influence.

Russian Tourist Rolls Joint in Pattaya Bay Shore Hotel Restaurant

The consumption of Marijuana is now legal in Colorado and Washington States, I am not sure if it is legal in Moscow or Siberia as I have not ventured to any of these places recently. I do know that lighting up a fat joint is a definate no no in Pattaya.

Restaurant workers at The Siam Bayshore Hotel in South Pattaya were therefore more than a little surprised to see a Russian tourist sit down in the bar, order a beer and smartly rolled himself a spliff.

They told the guy no no - no response, they tried niet niet - still no response. So they called in the boys in brown to deal with this spaced out former soviet citizen.

Pattaya police officers tried but could still not communicate apart from ascertaining that his name was Mr. Dennis, he was Russian and he was happy.

The police however were not happy and he was given a free tour of Pattaya Police Station where he was charged with drugs possession.

Belgian Dies in Pattaya Days After Minor Accident

A unit of the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation responded to a request for assistance after receiving a report of a foreigner laying unconscious in a room in Central Pattaya.

At the scene at a room on the second floor of a building in Soi Skae Beach on Second Road they found a Mr. Wayne Aken aged 75 a Belgian national and his frantic 17 year old daughter who had made the call to get help for her father.

Mr. Aken was unconscious he had a faint pulse but he was not breathing. Medics attempted CPR and rushed him to Banglamung Hospital. Doctors attempted to resuscitate Mr Aken but were not successful. He was transferred to Pattaya Memorial Hospital where they have better emergency equipment. Unfortunately he did not respond to their efforts and he was declared dead a short time after admission.

The daughter said that after their parents divorced she had stayed with her father. He was normally in good health for his age and exercised regularly.

A few days earlier he had had a minor road accident being struck by a motorcycle but had only sustained minor injuries and refused to go to hospital. He said he had a fever and retired to his bedroom where she found him later not breathing.

Doctors think he may have suffered from delayed shock after the accident. A full post mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death.

Dragon Tattoo Man Recovered Floating Off Sattahip

Sattahip police officers and rescue workers took a boat ride from Sattahip harbour to an island out in the bay of Thailand where another body had been washed up. This area is becoming a major dumping ground for bodies.

The deceased had no documentation on him. He was aged about 30 and had been in the sea for quite a while as evident by the level of decomposition and the loss of flesh due to marine life feeding off the corpse.

The only clear identification mark was a large dragon tattoo. At the present time the only theory the police have is that dragon tattoo man was yet another victim of violence out on the open sea which results in some fishing vessel crew member being killed and tossed over board.

The deceased was taken to hospital for a full autopsy to be carried out. It is hoped that the police enquiries may turn up with an identity for The Dragon Tattoo man so that relatives can claim his body and funeral rites can be carried out.

Russian Latest Lady Boy Victim on Pattaya Beach Road

It's 2am in Pattaya and a group of tourists are strolling back to their hotel along beach road after a night out in Walking Street when they are mobbed by a group of thieving Thai scum - Lady Boys - Thai blokes dressed in skirts. You know this is not going to end well.

This morning's unlucky loser - Mr. Rowengolf Ravel aged 33 a slightly sozzled former soviet citizen was relieved to survive the mobbing not ware initially that he had also been relieved of 1,200 Baht knicked by a knicker wearing pick pocket.

He reported his financial loss to the boys in brown who accompanied him back along Beach Road stopping at each bunch of Beach Road Lady Boy scum but he could not give a positive ID as each lady boy looked pretty much the same as the next lady boy - just butt ugly.

Come on Pattaya Police you can do better than this - get these scum bags off the streets once and for all.

Motorcyclist Killed by Garbage Truck in South Pattaya Driver Flees

Pattaya Police and a unit of The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were called to attend a road accident in South Pattaya with reports that there had had been a fatality of a motorcyclist.

At the scene near the entrance to Soi 4 on South Pattaya Road they found a wrecked Honda Scoopy motorcycle and the body of a Thai male aged somewhere between 25 and 35. He didn't carry any ID on him.

Parked up about 159 meters down the road was the garbage truck that according to witnesses had hit the motorcycle from the rear run over the bike and it's rider and driven on a short way down the road before the driver and the garbage workers on the truck did a runner and disappeared.

The body of the deceased motorcyclist was transported to hospital for a full forensic autopsy to be carried out. The police are trying to identify him from the registration details on the bike.

As for the Garbage truck driver the police are aware that these trucks are often manned by illegal aliens who are even more likely than Thai drivers to flee the scene of accidents. This fatality marks the first death to have occurred in Pattaya in a road accident in the Songkran period.

Bangkok Taxi Driver Scammed in Pattaya

Thailand is often known as LOS - The Land of Smiles but LOS can have another meaning - The Land of Scams. It's a long way from Bangkok or Bangkok Airport to Pattaya and foreign tourists are willing to pay a premium price to get here quickly and safely.

So OK the tourist often pay a little over the odds to travel in comfort. Taxi drivers are often the butt of complaints some legitimate some just made by weary travellers who object to paying the foreigner premier price that is the norm in any holiday destination around the world

This week a new scam came to light and this time it wasn't the passengers who suffered but the humble taxi driver just trying to make his daily bowl of rice.

Taxi driver Khun Pipop aged 35 had just dropped off his fare at the entrance to Walking Street when he was approached by a Thai man who claimed that he had a foreign customer wanting to visit several provinces and was willing to pay 12,000 Baht for the fare.

The man said that he wanted 3,500 Baht commission and he would inflate the foreigners fare by this amount. Khun Pipop agreed and the Thai man got into the taxi to take him to The Bella Express Hotel in Central Pattaya where he said he worked and where the foreign customer was waiting for a taxi.

On the journey the Thai guy was chatty telling the taxi driver that he was a relative of a famous Thai singer. At the hotel he asked for his 3,500 Baht commission which the driver handed over. He even gave him a receipt for the deposit.

Then the Thai man went into the hotel. After an hour or so he realised something was amiss. Khun Pipop  went in to reception to ask about the Thai man and the foreigners waiting for a taxi. Whoops no one waiting and no one answering that description working there. Khun Pipop had just been scammed out of 3,500 Baht. He made his weary way to Pattaya Police Station to file a report.

The police were sympathetic but he was just one victim of many who had been scammed by a gang of prolific scam artists targeting Bangkok Taxi drivers looking for a return fare after dropping off passengers in Pattaya The capital of LOS - The Land of Scams

Oil Pollution on Sattahip Beaches

We reported recently of oil pollution affecting Jomtien Beach. These deposits although small covered an extensive 1-2km stretch of the beach.

Now reports are coming in of similar pollution affecting beaches in Sattahip District. With locals and tourists naturally reticent to enter the water for fears to their health and just sitting or walking on polluted beaches can end up with difficult to move and annoying oils smears to the body and clothing.

Thai Royal Naval Assets based in Sattahip have been tasked to investigate any oil slicks in the Gulf of Thailand and try to determine their origin. Fishing boats cleaning fuel tanks and dumping their contents illegally at sea are the usual culprits however at the moment the blame is being pointed at an oil tanker that capsized in the port of Mahachon in Samut Sakhon Province south of Bangkok on the 7th of April.

Environmental agencies are very concerned as any reports of polluted beaches could have a seriously negative effect especially during the Songkran Festival period.

Flower Power Shirts Hit Pattaya for Songkran

Walking any street in Pattaya this week or even popping in to a seven eleven store or a Govern office and you could be forgiven for thinking that you had passed through a time warp and were back in the 1960's and the age of hippies and flower power. Yes some of us are old enough to remember the brightly flowered shirts that we wore as we watched The Beatles and re runs of Woodstock.

Khun Duangrudee who makes and sells these retro shirts from her shop in Soi Nernplubwan, East Pattaya says that this year business is brisk with new designs popping up and bunches of flower shirts being picked by eager customers happy to get into the party mood.

So enjoy while you can - just remember venturing for a night out on the town in a couple of weeks time dressed in a pink shirt with purple pansies will be well just not cool unless you are heading out to Boyztown that is.

Underwater World Pattaya Welcomes The kids Center of anti-trafficking

Mr. Kelvin Huang, General Manager of The Underwater World Pattaya generously opened his doors for a free trip for children from The Banglamung kids Center of anti-trafficking and child sexual abuse.

30 Children got taken on a free underwater wonderland tour of the amazing marine exhibts of marine fish, marine mammals and marine eco systems usually on offer at a price to local tourists and an even more expensive price to foreign tourists.

The aim was to to teach the children of the importance and consciousness of environmental principles. The Value and benefits of coral eco-systems for humanity and the benefits to the community and the coral reefs of the disposing of waste and sewage in a sustainable and eco-friendly manner.

As for the kids - they loved the free ice cream cones.

Jomtien Beach Oil Slick Pollution

Members of the media went to document reports that a serious oils spill had washed up on Jomtien Beach opposite Jomtien Soi 15. The oil was not massive but appeared in small blobs and long strands and stretched about one Km along the beach.

Local residents whose children and grand children regularly used this stretch of the beach said that oil was not uncommon and was usually the result of fishing vessels illegally cleaning out their tanks and dumping oil out in the bay. These deposits however were more significant.

Tourists were not happy as they were in fear for their health and showed the reporters oil stains on their swim wear and bodies that they had picked up before they were made aware of the oil slick.

Officials from The Pattaya Environment Agency were already on scene assessing the extent of the pollution and a team of a dozen or so council workers were hard at work scraping up the oil deposits and putting them in bins for disposal.

One of the officials said that the oil may have drifted down the Gulf of Thailand from an oil tanker that had capsized at Mahachai Port in Samut Sakhorn Province near Bangkok on the 7th of April.

Sattahip Drug Dealer Arrested

Khun Phawat The Sherrif of Sattahip and his merry band of Drug suppression officers led a raid on a house in Moo Baan Sammakhee in Satahip District.

The house was the home of a career criminal Khun Somphote who had just returned back after a brief 5 year holiday courtesy of the Thai Department of Corrections. Rumour had it or rather informants suggested that as well as returning home he had also returned to his old habits and was dealing drugs to teenagers in the local area.

Agents searched his room for illegal drugs and were rather drawn to some crazy music coming from his stereo system and hey presto they found 10 tablets of Yaa Baa (Methamphetamine hidden in one of the speakers. Well sounds like he will be based back in his old cell soon.

Chonburi Beauty Clinic Raided

Thai women are beautiful on that we can all agree so it is perhaps surprising the lengths, expense and medical procedures they often put themselves through to enhance their natural beauty. In particular they seem to suffer from obsessions about the whiteness or lack of whiteness of their skin.

Beauty shops and skin clinics abound. Unfortunately they use non regulated products and un-licenced beuticians to perform their miracle and expensive skin whitening cures. This draws the attention of the authorities who can always find a new clinic to raid or a repeat offender to raid one more time.

The latter was the case that Chonburi Provincial Health officials along with Chonburi police officers decided to persue with a raid on a beauty clinic in SeamSuk District of Chonburi whose owner Nittaya was a serial skin offender.

On the premises they found beauty and skin whitening concoctions that had been illegally imported into Thailand along with cosmetics that were incorrectly labled and medical devices used in the operation of these beauty intensifying procedures.

So be warned being in possession of illegal skin whitening products could bring down the full force of the Thai authorities with large fines and up to 5 years in prison. Now that could ruin any young ladies complextion for sure.

21 Year Old Attempts Rape of 74 Year Old Lady In East Pattaya

Nongprue Police were called to attend a possible rape at The Chokchai Garden Homes 7-8 projects adjacent to the railway lines in Soi Khao Noi East Pattaya.

At the scene they found a 74 year old lady in a distressed state and a young man with a rather swollen face Khun Nantawoot aged 21 who had allegedly assaulted her. The lady luckily suffered no outward signs of injury but was taken to Banglamung Hospital for attention and for any evidence to be collected.

A Neighbor Khun Seemueng aged 47, told the police that he had heard the old lady crying out and went to investigate. The room was locked but he broke in to confront the attacker who hoofed it towards some woods nearby. He was chased down and retuned to the scene to await the arrival of the police.

It appears that the attacker Khun Nantawoot a construction worker who lived nearby had tricked his way into the old lady's room on the pretence of wanting to watch TV. He placed a towel over her mouth to stifle her screams as he attempted to rape her.

Khun Nantawoot was in a dazed state probably due to the combination of the consumption of a large amount of alcohol, possibly drugs and of course the gentle treatment handed out by the neighbours who had dragged him the 1 Km back to the scene.

Pending the results of the forensic medical examination Khun Nantawoot faces serious sexual assault charges.

Lady Boys Rob Dutch Tourist on Walking Street

A case of miss placed Dutch courage. A Dutch couple in-advisably strolling along Walking Street at 3am nearly survived their ill advised gawping session. They managed to get back to Windy Inn Hotel on Walking Street when they were greeted by a bunch of thieving lady boy scum who were a permanent feature at this location. They mobbed the returning revelers and one of the Thai blokes dressed as a woman gave Mr. Wouter Johannes Egbertus Wolven aged 58 an affectionate hug and at the same time performed an obviously well practiced move lifted his iPhone5 from the victim's pocket and tossed it under a bush ready to be collected later.

The Dutch man and his wife were not aware that their holiday was just about to be ruined. However the sharp eyes of the Hotel security guard Khun Yuthana saved the day and he grabbed the thieving scum bag and held him until police arrived.

The scum in a skirt Mr. Parinya aged 25 from Loei Province was recognized by the police as a serial skirted scum bag with previous convictions for mobile phone thefts and drug abuse. The thief denied any allegations and pleaded that it wasn't him or her but his friend and it was him or her that did the evil deed.

The Dutch guy got his iphone back and the Lady Boy got to enjoy a night off in a police cell. He will no doubt be back robbing tourists within a day or two.

I wait with unabated breath for Pattaya Police to follow my advice on how to deal with these thieving scum bags. Go to their rooms - steal all their property and distribute the proceeds to the poor and needy folks of Pattaya and deport the scum back to their home provinces with a one way ticket, handcuffed to their seat and a sign in Thai around their neck that states clearly I am a returning piece of Human smelly brown stuff.

Artillery Shell Found in Sriracha

Another unexplored shell was discovered this week this time in Tungsukhla District of Sriracha. The device was discovered in a ditch adjacent to a workers accommodation block. Police and bomb disposal technicians from Region 2 police headquarters were dispatched to handle the find.

They found a 105mm artillery shell approximately 24 inches long and 5 inches wide with a weight of about 30 Kg. The experts removed the device and took it away to be disposed of in a remote and desolate location.

It should be noted that there are not more shells being dumped around Thai communities but with the onset of the Hot season drainage ditches and water levels in ponds are low so these things become more easily visible.

Pattaya Police Prepare For Songkran

Songkran in Pattaya is almost amongst us again. Thousands of extra tourists will flood Pattaya (pun intended)

At Pattaya City Hall the Khun Ek Deputy Commander of The Thai National Police force together with Chonburi Police Major General Kacha presided over a meeting of senior police officers from all districts in Pattaya and the surrounding areas.

Battle plans were discussed. The main aim is to suppress the major crime such as drugs and firearm offences and smooth the way for the tourists to enjoy the carnage that will inevitably reign over the designated day of Songkran and the week preceeding and the week after.

I praise the efforts of The Thai National Police, The Chonburi Police Force and the police forces of Banglamung and Pattaya.

Good luck - you are going to need it.

Thai Internet Game Addict Falls Off Roof of Building in Pattaya

A Unit of The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation was called out to provide assistance to a Thai man who had fallen off the roof of the building where he lived. At the scene The Mityon Building on Central Pattaya Road opposite Big C Xtra they found a Khun Sanit aged 35. He was laying injured on the metal canopy of the motorcycle showroom and was in severe pain.

Rescue workers had a tricky job getting up to the canopy and worked to stabalize the victim as they feared that he may have suffered a spinal injury. After 30 minutes he was brought down safely and rushed to Banglamung Hospital for emergency treatment.

Miraculously he was bruised and battered but had not sustained any serious injuries or broken bones.

Interviewed later Khun Sanit explained how he ended up in such a predicament. He said that he was in bed with his girlfriend and he had an urge. No not that kind of urge. He had the urge to play "Cookie Run" Apparantly he gets this urge quite frequently. To scratch this urge he went to the roof of the building and sprawled on the top of the concrete wall hanging over the four storey drop to the pavement below. This was the best position to play "Cookie Run" as he got the best WiFi signal from there.

He was engrossed in the game and more than a little drowsy due to some medications he had consumed and simply nodded off and subsequently rolled over and plunged earthward.

Khun Sanit attributes his survival to the fact that Buddha was looking out for him. Let's hope that next time he decides to play "Cookie Run" that he says a few prayers and lights a few incence sticks before scratching his urge on the roof.

Tara International School Pattaya Celebrates Songkran

The Tara International School in East Pattaya organized activities at the school to celebrate Songkran Thai Style.

Honoured guests, School administrators, Parents, teachers and students gathered together to carry out the traditional Thai sprinkling of water ceremonies. There were lots of games and other activities for the attendees to participate in that joined together the fine principles of Songkran with the equally fine principles of Sanuk (having fun)

It's a shame that the water gun toting yobbos roaming the streets of Pattaya next week will have no idea of how Songkran should be celebrated.

Na Jomtien Pattaya Security Meeting

TMN Cable TV took the initiative this week to organize a gathering of local authority officials, security personnel and leaders of communities in Na Jomtien that have seen a sudden and pervasive upsurge in crimes in their area.

The meeting was held at The community center at the Community Housing Office of the Pattaya District 1 of The Chonburi National Housing Administration. Senior Pattaya and Na Jomtien police officers were there to listen to village headmen and community leaders who voiced serious concerns about security in their areas.

Burglaries and thefts are reaching epidemic proportions. Police have increased patrols of police officers and police volunteers.

They stressed that this is only one part of the response needed to suppress crime and make Na Jomtien a safer place to live in. The Headmen and community representatives were urged to spread the message amongst their residents that local folks need to be more vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour or suspicious individuals to the authorities promptly.

Mayor of Pattaya Elder Sprinkling Ceremony

Khun Itthipol the Mayor of Pattaya took part in a traditional Songkran ceremony this week to mark the start of the Thailand New Year festivities here in Pattaya and across Thailand.

Along with other senior executives from Pattaya City Council he took the opportunity to seek out the elederly folks of Pattaya and sprinkle water on them.

Thailand celebrates Mother's day, Father's day and children's day so it is nice to see as an old fogey myself  that they also have Elders Day. Children are urged on this day to take time and have a chat with their elders and share the blessings of life and life experiences.

Chonburi Man Captured after Murdering His Wife

Chonburi Police Major General Kachaa announced the arrest of a Khun Suthon aged 44 who is accused of murdering his wife and dumping her body in Tambon Nong Kaeo Ban Bung, Chonburi.

Khun Suthon has confessed to the crime and described the events that led up to him killing his wife of 20 years and mother to his three children.

Khun Suthon said that their marriage had been on the rocks for a long time and that his wife Khun Kanchana had addictions to drugs and alcohol. He had tried numerous times at reconciling their marriage but all to no avail.

On the day of the murder he had hired a pick-up truck and gone fishing in Chachoengsao. He was driving back and stopped at his daughters home when his wife turned up. An argument ensued and he lost it kicking and punching her before stabbing her three times with a knife.

He had then dumped her body and gone into hiding at a relatives home in Chachoengsao. He added that he loved his children and had confesed to the murder after neighbours had threatened to lynch him.

Truck Rolls Over Near Bang Saray, Pattaya

A unit of the Sawang Rodjana Rescue Foundation was called to attend a serious road accident on The Sukhumvit Highway at Km 166 near The Royal Thai Navy Education Centre at Bang Saray

At the scene they found an Isuzu truck with it's wheels pointing skywards.

The driver Khun Somneuk aged 57  had extricated himself and was unharmed despite the truck and it's roof being in such a sorry state.

Khun Somneuk said that he was driving quite fast and returning after making a delivery in Sattahip when his right rear tire exploded this caused the vehicle to spin out of control and then turn over.

Buddha was certainly smiling on Khun Somneuk this day - I am sure he will be driving much slower the next time he ventures to Sattahip.

Gambling Pub Restaurant Raided in Central Pattaya

Pattaya and Chonburi police officers joined forces this week to raid an entertainment venue in Central Pattaya.

From information received the police had obtained search warrants and raided The Kickup Pub & Restaurant in Soi Jirapon off Pattaya Third Road just after Midday the place was packed with patrons who were enjoying the pub's facilities from the night before with many cars and motorcycles parked outside.

Not only was the pun operating outside of times that were indicated on their entertainment licences they were also suspected of running a gambling establishment.

There first aim was to secure the establishment and round up the fleeing patrons. Then they moved in on the owner Khun Sanchai aged 52. Evidence was collected including dice, gambling chips and other casino equipment.

A patron Khun Thosapon was in possession of more than casino chips he had an automatic weapon and 12 rounds of ammunition. Another .38mm gun with ammunition along with an illegal substance 9 bottles of the Class 2 drug Ketamine were hidden behind the DJ's equipment.

Several people tested positive for the consumption of illegal substances.

A veritable jackpot for the police officers involved and a safe bet that those arrested will be losing their shirts trying to wriggle out of the multiple charges.

Gun Toting Teenagers Steal Motorcycle in Nong Yai, Pattaya

Two 16 year old boys riding their motorcycle just past midnight on their way to meet a bunch of mates in Pattaya for a night out. They were passing a seven-11 store near the railway lines at the back of Wat Nong Yai, East Pattaya when they were confronted by a group of teenagers on their motorcycles parked up in front of the convenience store.

One of the gang pulled out a gun and fired a round off in the air. They ditched the motorcycle and ran for cover returning a little later to find that the gang had disappeared and so had their Honda Wave motorcycle.

The Nongprue police arrived on scene and interviewed the lads and examined CCTV footage outside the seven-11 to see if they could identify the gun toting highway robbers.

I have two questions
One - why are guns so freely available in Pattaya?
Two - What on Earth are the parents thinking allowing two 16 year old boys to ride a motorcycle just past midnight?
