Potholes in the road are a major hazard to motorists all over the world. Driving a two wheeled vehicle in the darkness of the night in Pattaya and your chances of being injured rises significantly. Now into the equation let's put in a young female rider on her way home who may or may not have a motorcycle license but almost certainly has never been trained to handle a potentially lethal mechanical machine.
Finally add in the fact that potholes often go unnoticed and un-repaired by the authorities for days or even weeks. And cones, signs, warning lights - do they exist around here?
A unit of The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were called to give assistance to a young lady who had succumbed to one of these ghostly road hazards. At the scene at the entrance to Soi 75 on The Sukhumvit Road near South Pattaya Road they found Khun Kanchana aged 33. Miss Kanchana had come off her bike and suffered head wounds and serious wounds and abrasions to her body.
She was given first aid at the scene by medics and then transported by rescue workers to Banglamung Hospital for further emergency treatment.
Pattaya Reporters are often amongst the first responders at an accident scene. An emergency centre run by the Thappraya 2310 Foundation gets the notifications about incidents and puts out radio calls for emergency services to respond.
A call came in regarding a car, motorcycle accident outside Muu Baan Rungland on South Pattaya Road. Pattaya Police and a unit from The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation responded.
At the scene they found a Yamaha Spark motorcycle laying in the middle of the road and laying close by it's rider Khun Am. Khun Am had suffered a back injury and was in a lot of pain. Medics gave him first aid, strapped him to a back board and transported him immediately to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital for further emergency treatment.
Also at the scene close by the wrecked motorcycle was a Mitsubishi Lancer car that had damage to it's front end. Reporters moved in to talk to the driver but he was belligerent, incoherent and seemed to be under the influence.
Witnesses however were a little more forthcoming and described the accident laying the blame firmly on the Mitsubishi driver who attempted to make a right turn and collided with the oncoming motorcyclist.
Police took statements, took pictures for evidence and then moved on to try to get a sober statement from the var driver.
Pattaya Traffic Police this week are mourning the loss of one of it's senior and most respected officers. Police Lieutenant Pradit aged 55 was due to retire from the Pattaya Police force in a few months time after many years of service to the citizens of Pattaya.
Lieutenant Pradit was slain in a senseless and callous road accident which resulted in catastrophic fatal injuries and as is sadly the norm in Thailand the killer driver doing a runner and not hanging around the scene to face the music
Pattaya police, fellow traffic police officers and a unit of the Sawang Boriboon Thamasathan Rescue Foundation attended the crash which occurred on the Pattaya-bound carriageway of The Sukhumvit Highway between Central and North Pattaya, just before the exit leading to Highway 7. It was a gruesome scene. The police officers Honda Wave motorcycle laying on it's side and close by the body of Lieutenant Pradit. Witnesses to the accident including one of his Traffic Police comrades had seen Black Mitsubishi Pajero crash violently into the rear-end of the officer’s motorbike. The Pajero ran over the officer and then left the scene at high speed.
An alert went out on the police radio frequencies and soon a police unit in Nongkam Police Station in nearby Sriracha District spotted and stopped a vehicle matching the description of the Killer Mitsubishi. The driver, a Thai man whose identity has not yet been revealed was arrested whilst enquiries are made and a forensic team brought in to scrutinise his vehicle which clearly showed fresh damage to the front end.
Having been killed whilst on duty Police Lieutenant Pradit will be bestowed all the ceremonial privileges and his bereaved family taken care of by The Royal Thai Police Force and his stunned colleagues.
Three teenagers killed in a horrific motorcycle accident in North Pattaya. Three 15 year old kids killed whilst riding a single motorcycle at high speed on Sukhumvit Road North Pattaya. That's three young lives snuffed out in one crash. What are the parents thinking about. Why does it seem that Thai parents don't give a monkey's about the lives of their offspring.

Pattaya Police and rescue units from The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation arrived on scene to find a 50 metre debris field of what remained of a pink Honda Scooby. Scuff marks on the road surface and nearby street furniture suggested a high speed crash although in the early hours of the morning there were no witnesses.
I won't go into details of the blood and gore that littered the scene. One girl, one young 15 year old girl pronounced dead at the scene and two 15 year old boys pronounced dead after being transported to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital and succumbing to their injuries.

Police Officers from Nongprue police station in East Pattaya were called to the scene of an accident after local residents had heard the sound of a crash. They rushed to attend the scene along with a unit of The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation.
At the scene near a flyover on Highway 36 they found the wreckage of a Suzuki motorcycle which appears to have collided with a road sign in the centre of the road. The rider of the motorcycle Khun Yupin aged 32 had sustained massive traumatic injuries in the crash and appears to have died instantly from her injuries.
The extent of the damage to the Suzuki and the severity of the injuries suggested that the deceased was driving her motorcycle at high speed at the time of the crash. The accident scene also revealed some clues that maybe another vehicle which left the scene may have been involved in Khun Yupin losing control of her machine and subsequently losing her life.
Khun Yupin was transported to Banglamung Hospital for a full forensic post mortem to be carried out before the body can be released to relatives for funeral rites to be carried out.
Pattaya Police and a unit of The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation responded to a road accident in Central Pattaya which had injured 3 Thai youths. At the scene near Big C Extra on Central Pattaya road they found a Honda Wave motorcycle which had crashed into the side of a Toyota Altis car.
One of the accident victims was unconscious and seriously injured - he was rushed to hospital immediately for emergency treatment. The other two aged around 20 had abrasions and facial injuries.
They were able to tell police officers that they had been drinking at a pub on third road and had been involved in an altercation with another group of young men. They had left the venue on a motorcycle and were followed by the other gang in their pick-up truck. A chase ensued and near Big C the pick-up had forced them to crash into the parked Toyota. The pick-up then fled the scene in the direction of Sukhumvit Road.
The police collected evidence at the scene of the accident and are now looking to collect the gang of youths who used their pick-up as a lethal weapon.
Pattaya Police and a unit of The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were alerted by radio from The Thappraya 2310 Foundation of a road accident in North Pattaya involving a car and a motorcycle and resulting in one injury.
At the scene at a crossroads on Third Road in North Pattaya they found a Toyota Camry vehicle stood at the traffic lights and a wrecked Honda motorcycle laying in the road at the rear of the car. Also laying in the road was the rider Khun Paisarn who was suffering from head wounds that he had sustained when he impacted the Toyota. As is too often the case with accidents that occur in the wee hours of the morning in Pattaya. Khun Paisarn appeared to have had a drink or two more than is legal or wise enough to operate a mechanical form of transport.
The driver of the Toyota Khun Nichaiya had little to say apart from stting the facts. She was stationary waitiing for the lights to turn green. The first thing she knew was when the bike crashed into her rear end.
Khun Paisarn was treated at the scene by medics before being transported to a local hospital for further emergency treatment.
Police and a Unit of The Pattaya Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation attended the scene of a serious road traffic accident on The Pattaya bound lane of Sukhumvit Road near the Banglamung Transportation Offices.
The driver of a Toyota Corrola vehicle had lost control spun and crashed. There were two people trapped inside the car. Rescue workers needed to use cutting equipment and the jaws of life to extricate the driver Khun Namphon aged 40 and his passenger Khun Chatri aged 38.
Khun Chatri was lucky and had sustained only minor injuries and abrasions. The driver Khun Namphon however was in a bad condition with broken ribs puncturing his lungs and other serious wounds to his face and body.
They were both rushed to Banglamung Hospital for further emergency treatment. Meanwhile Police officers from Banglamung Police Station set to work documenting the crash scene and interviewing witnesses to find out what happened.
After being notified by the Thappraya 2310 Foundation of a road traffic accident in East Pattaya journalists attended the scene to find out what happened. They needn't have bothered as it is the same story that happens night after night, week after week on the streets of Pattaya.
A motorcycle transporting two inebriated Thai idiots back to their room had collided with a pick-up truck.
A unit of The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation was already in attendance. Medics were treating a Khun Thavisak who was laying in the road beside his trusty steed writhing in pain with a swollen face and other injuries indicative of flying through the air and sliding along a tarmac surface. His mate had already been transported to Banglamung Hospital presumably with more serious injuries.
As for the driver of the pick-up truck goodness only knows he or she was noticable by their absence after dong a typical Thai runner.
A young Chinese tourist had a rough day when she was the victim of a bag snatch and then minutes later the victim of a motorcycle accident on the way to the police station.
Miss Meng Yin Qi was riding on a motorcycle with her friend near Soi 5 when two Thai youths riding a Honda Wave motorcycle approached. The guy on the back snatched the handbag from her shoulder and then rode off at high speed.
A nearby motorcycle taxi driver stepped up to the mark and immediately took the young lady to Pattaya Police Station. Unfortunately the bike she was now on was in a minor road accident with another car. She arrived at the police station shaken and stirred and more than a little distraught.
Her bag contained a Digital Camera, 2,000 Baht in cash, a mobile phone and her Passport. Now she was in tears as she realised that her return home would have to be delayed until she could get a replacement passport from the Chinese embassy in Bangkok.
The police sent out details immediately on the radio and went to the location of the robbery but as of yet the poor young Chinese lady stays a little poorer and stays in Pattaya waiting for replacement paperwork. All so two thieving Thai thugs can get their next fix of Yaa Baa and a bottle of whiskey.
Rescue workers from The Thappraya 2310 Foundation rushed to the scene of a road accident on Sukhumvit Soi 73 East Pattaya, close to the Pattaya Highway Patrol Station, involving multiple vehicles and several people injured.
At the scene they found a damaged Mazda vehicle a damaged power pole and several damaged motorcycles. The driver of the Mazda had already been taken to hospital. Close by was an overturned Honda Wave motorcycle and a Yamaha Fino motorcycle.
The rider of the Honda Wave Khun Yuphanan aged 22 was in severe pain having sustained severe injuries to his right leg and left arm. He was given first aid at the scene and then transported to hospital for further emergency treatment.
Witnesses told Nongprue police officers that they had seen the Mazda approaching at high speed and then crashing into the two motorcycles and then battling with the power pole who came out on top in the altercation.
The police took statements and collected evidence. All they need to do now is to talk to the driver of the Mazda when he is in a fit state to be interviewed.
Pattaya Police and a unit from The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were called to attend an accident between two motorcycles outside a restaurant on Route 3.
At the scene they found two motorcycles, a Honda Click and a Kawasaki motorbike that had sustained damage along with it's riders who had also sustained a fair amount of damage.
One of the victims a Thai man had sustained only minor injuries. The other guy and Indian gentleman had suffered more extensive injuries to his right arm and leg along with other gashes and abrasions. He was transported immediately to Banglamung Hospital for further emergency treatment.
Police could then start interviewing witnesses to find out who was driving what from where and who was responsible for the crash. My money is on the Indian tourist.
Police and a unit from The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were called to attend at the scene of a road accident in Baan Ruan near Soi TakianTia Pattaya.
When they got there they found a Honda Dash motorcycle that had crashed into the wall of a house. There were two people involved thought to be Burmese workers. They didn't have any ID.
One of them had no pulse and was pronounced dead at the scene. His friend was seriously injured but still alive. He was rushed immediately to Banglamung Hospital for emergency treatment.
Witnesses said that they saw the motorcycle come out of a small soi andslammed straight in to the wall of a house opposite the junction.
Pattaya Police were on scene to sort out the aftermath of a road accident on South Pattaya Road at the crossroads with Pattaya third road. The road was slippy due to a recent rain shower and there had been a collision between a Toyota Fortuner and a Honda Wave motorcycle. The Toyota had come out the winner and the Honda bike had come in a close second.
The loser was definitely the motorcycle rider Khun Ekasit aged 23 who had sustained multiple abrasions and was in a lot of pain from an ankle injury.
Medics from The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation had started to give first aid when the cavalry arrived on scene - Khun Ekasit's mother. She called an ambulance and her son was soon whisked away to Pattaya Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment.
Witnesses told the police that the Toyota Fortuner had pulled out unexpectedly and due to the slippery conditions the oncoming motorcycle had been unable to avoid a collision.
A coming together of a motorcycle and a ford pick-up truck in East Pattaya resulted in a bent pick-up a wrecked motorcycle, a power pole and a rather large hole in a fence.
At the scene outside The Royal Orchid Village on MabYaiLia 47 there were no serious injuries and it seems that the pole was the main winner in this confrontation.
Nongprue Municipality Workers, Nongprue Police Officers and a Unit of The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were all at the scene. As well as a mob of local residents and a larger mob of media representatives all doing what mobs do - gawp at the presented devastation and the trained professionals doing what they were trained to do.
Now it was the job of the police to question the participants to try to find out who was at fault. The pick-up driver, the motorcyclist or the power pole.

At the scene at the mouth of Soi Sukhumvit 32, before the fourth traffic light, North Pattaya Road they found a wrecked Suzuki Crystal motorcycle and it's rider Khun Saaw aged 31 along with a Damaged Toyota Camry and it's driver Khun Bass aged 26.
Khun Saaw of course came off worse in the motorcycle car confrontation and was transported by rescue workers to hospital for immediate emergency treatment.
The police could then collect evidence and interview witness at the scene including the Toyota driver to get a better idea how this accident occured.
Pattaya Police and a Unit of The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were called to attend a motorcycle accident on Tappraya Road near the traffic lights at Soi Tepprasit
At the scene they found an overturned Honda Click motorcycle laying in the road. The driver of the motorcycle Khun Benz was sitting nearby nursing injuries to his foot and also nearby a young lady who had injuries to her face.
It appears that the young lady was trying to cross the road with some friends when she was struck by the motorcycle that no one had seen coming. Khun Benz said that he was returning to his motorcycle taxi rank and no chance to avoid the collision when the lady stepped into his path.
It was a dark day for a couple of Darkside motorcycle riders when they crashed in Soi Nernplubwan East Pattaya. Rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were called to the accident scene at the entrance to soi MabYaiLia 1 on Soi Nernplubwan.
There were two downed motorcycycles a Yamaha Fino and a Honda Click as well as long traffic jam in all directions. The young lasy aged about 22 had already been transported to hospital. The young man who was riding the Yamaha Fino ws laying unconcious in the road. Medics gave first aid at the scene and he was also rushed to hospital.
Eyewitnesses said that the Honda click had slowed to make a turn into soi MabYaiLia 1 and was rammed from behind by the Yamaha Fino rider.
Unfortunately just a normal day in East Pattaya
A unit of the Tappraya 2310 Foundation were the first on the scene of a road accident on The Sukhumvit Road near to soi Khao Talo involving a car and a motorcycle sidecar combo.
The Honda Wave & sidecar which was kited out to sell ice cream was badly damaged and after the accident ended up perched in the central reserve. The man who was riding the motorcycle was laying unconscious and his female passenger had injuries to her arm and multiple abrasions on her body.
About 50 meters away was the parked Toyota Vios that had been involved in the crash along with it's driver Khun Joe aged 30. He said that he had been driving from Sattahip to Pattaya when the motorcycle sidecar pulled out in front of him and although he braked hard he couldn't avoid a collision.
The police and a unit of The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation soon arrived at the accident scene. The police took charge of the scene and collected evidence. The rescue workers gave the injured first aid before transporting them to a nearby hospital for further emergency treatment.
A unit of The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation rushed to give assistance after receiving reports of a serious motorcycle accident in Pong District of Chonburi.
At the scene on route 36 near the gas station on Moo 6 of Pong District they found an overturned Honda MTX motorcycle. Nearby was an Assumption school student who had received a severe head wound and was unconcious.
Rescue workers gave first aid and then transported the student to Banglamung Hospital for further emergenct treatment. Meanwhile the police are trying to trace the parents to notify them of the accident and of the present whereabouts and situation of their child.
