Danish Man Dies in Motorcycle Sidecar Accident on Sukhumvit Road Pattaya

Pattaya Police and a unit from The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were called to attend a serious road accident on Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya.

At the scene they found the body of a foreigner and his shattered motorcycle sidecar combination. The body and bike were in the fast lane of the carriageway and the vehicle, a commuter mini van, that had hit the bike was parked up on the left side of the road.

The victim Mr. Ole Laursen aged 67 from Denmark had died from severe injuries sustained in the accident.

The driver of the passenger van Khun Pomot aged 58 was waiting by his vehicle. He had moved the van and parked on the left side of the highway with concerns for the safety of the 5 passengers aboard his vehicle. None of the passengers or driver were injured in the accident. The white Toyota van had damage to the left side of the front of the vehicle.

Police marked the position of the wrecked Kawasaki motorcycle and sidecar with spray paint on the road surface and then moved the wreckage to the left out of the way of traffic.

Khun Pomot said that he was on his way to Bangkok from Rayong Province and was travelling in the right lane when the motorcycle sidecar wandered from the left into his path. He said that he was going at some speed and had no chance to brake or swerve to avoid the collission.

Khun Pomot and other witnesses in the van and in the vicinity will be interviewed further to assertain if any charges are brought against the driver of the mini van. Meanwhile the body of the deceased was transported by rescue workers to Banglamung Hospital for a full post mortem to be carried out.
