Pattaya Beach Road Bus Stop Debacle

Pattaya's efforts to enforce a strict no parking and no stopping for buses ban on Pattaya Beach Road is well just not working. Yes enforcement efforts on drivers who dare to park in the no parking zones are resulting in an increase in revenue raised from fines for the Pattaya City coffers but has not resulted in clear spots for buses to pull in to to pick up or drop off passengers.

Khun Sakchai the head of Banglamung District and other senior district officers along with Transport officials and the director of tourism and business for Pattaya met with representatives from private businesses and business organisations to brain storm possible fixes to the vexing problem.

Bus and taxi operators were offering a whole host of excuses why their members were not complying with the new contentious regulations that have designated 16 spots along Beach Road where buses are allowed to operate and drop off customers.

One reason given was that the bus stop signs had a sign showing a bus. The Baht bus drivers didn't think that they were affected as the sign looks like a bus and not a pick-up truck with seats.

Then their is the matter of numerous regulations that issue licenses for cars that carry passengers and buses that are registered as cars. Don't get me on the subject of Meter taxis that are called meter taxis because they have meters but never use the meter when a passenger tries to hire them.
