Nongprue Temple Fire in East Pattaya

Wat Nongprue temple in Nongprue District, East Pattaya suffered another major fire this week.

Journalists entering the temple grounds to cover a regional meeting of Abbots noticed smoke coming from one of the buildings and sounded the alarm to temple staff.

The smoke got stronger very quickly and it was soon realised that the Abbot's residence was on fire and help would be needed from emergency services.

Several fire engines and dozens of fire fighters from Nobprue and adjoining districts converged on the temple to battle the now well ablaze building. It took the fire fighters over 30 minutes to douse the flames.

It appears that the fire originated on the second floor of the Abbpt's residence which houses the temple radio station. An electrical short in the equipment there is thought to have sparked the fire.

No one was hurt in the fire but there was over a million Baht worth of damage to the building and it's contents.
