Meeting Proposed Gas Pipeline in Nongplalai District Pattaya

A public meeting was held at Nongplalai district offices in East Pattaya to discuss proposals to build a gas pipeline in the area.

Present at the meeting were the companies who are planning to build the pipeline Siam Best CNG and Royal Golden Dragon. The pipeline is planned to supply local CNG gas stations with gas products which will be used in the future by transport companies to fuel trucks, buses and passenger vehicles.

Environmental impact assessment studies have been carried out and local residents had this opportunity to ask questions about the plans that will affect their area as the pipeline will require some disturbance to local communities as the ground is excavated and the gas pipes laid.

Some local residents are protesting the proposed pipelines as they see little benefit to the local community and are worried not so much about temporary disruption but the long term risk of a highly flammable gas flowing underneath their homes that could lead to the risk of fire or explosions.

The companies involved agreed to hold more meetings with the local residents to attempt to allay their fears.
