Pattaya Traffic Regulations Crackdown

Pattaya Police have announced a crackdown on traffic violators in Pattaya. Their aim is to stop people parking illegally and clogging up the roads of Pattaya causing congestion and traffic jams. A little strange as this low season is way low and traffic jams are a rare occurrence.

Pattaya Pol. Col. Supathee told his officers to be vigilant for offenders who were parked or double parked in the new well painted and well signed bus taxi drop of zones.

They should check that taxis and motorcycle taxis were properly registered. Motorcycle taxis should always wear helmets and their passengers for safety reasons provided with helmets.

One of the weirdest tasks was that officers would have to make sure that the taxi meter regulations were being adhered to. The Chonburi Tranportation Department had laid down a standard taxi meter fare of 25 Baht for the first two Km and then 5 Baht per Km after that. Obviously no one has informed the authorities that Pattaya Taxi Meter Taxis have meters but they still have their protective plastic wrappers on them from when they were first installed and obviously they had never received instructions as to how to use them.
