Chonburi House Fire and Shooting

In Chonburi police and rescue units were called to a house fire where it had been reported that shots had also been fired. At the scene fire brigade officers went immediately to work in tackling the blaze. Police found a Khun Somchart aged 34 who had sustained gunshot wounds to his leg. He was given first aid and then transported to Burapha University Hospital for further emergency treatment.

It took over 30 minutes to douse the flames. Investigators entered the house and found that the fire had been deliberately set in a second floor bedroom by setting a mattress ablaze. In another bedroom they found a gruesome sight. There was the body of a man. His body was charred and he had sustained a shotgun wound to the head. The 12 gauge shotgun was still in his right hand.

Investigations revealed that the man who had set the fire and then shot himself was the former boyfriend of the lady who lived in the house Khun Phitak aged 40. He had arrived at the house in a rage broke through the glass door and shot khun Somchart in the leg. He then took his former girlfriend Khun Thairat aged 32 upstairs. Apparantly the two had broken up because of Khun Phitak's addiction to drugs.

Khun Thairat managed to make a break for it and escaped through a window. Then it seems that Khun Phitak poured petrol around the house and set fire to the house and then committed suicide with the shotgun he had brought with him.
