Indian Tourists Involved in Accident on Highway 36 Near Pattaya

Police at Huay Yai Police Station south of Pattaya received a report of a minibus accident on nearby Route 36 involving multiple casualties. They rushed to give assistance along with multiple units of The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation.

At the scene on the main Bangkok - Rayong Highway near Moo 5, Tambon Pong they found the Toyota minibus laying on it's side in the central reservation. Their first task was to cordon off the section of the busy highway and attend to the victims. The injured included the driver and seven Indian passengers.

The driver Khun Virat aged 37 was the most severely injured having sustained head injuries and a broken leg. The Indian tourists three males and four females were given first aid for their injuries and then transported by rescue workers some to Banglamung Hospital and some to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.

From witness statements it appears that the tourists had arrived at Suvanarbumi Airport and were travelling to Rayong Province to start their holiday.

The police will need to interview the driver when doctors deem him fit to be interviewed. At the moment police think that this is yet another incident of a van driver falling asleep at the wheel causing the vehicle to cross the carriageway and end up on it's side in the central reserve.
