Nongprue East Pattaya Traffic Checkpoints

Nongprue police in East Pattaya were out in force this week setting up checkpoints around the area. Soi Khao Noi and Soi Chaiyapreuk 2 were the main focus of their attention.

Orders had come down on high - from National police authorities for local forces to increase surveillance on the nations road. Ostensibly the traffic stops niggle the public as they feel the police are waisting their time and their own time by stopping motorcycles and vehicles to check documents, and give tickets for minor traffic infringements for offences like not wearing a helmet or not wearing a seat belt.

However there is a much more serious motive in their traffic enforcement activities. By stopping traffic for minor infringements it gives them the opportunity to pay particular attention to shifty characters who when they search them and their vehicles closely they often turn up illegal item like illegal drugs and firearms.

On this occasion many were booked and ticketed for minor infringements but no significant seizures of drugs or guns were made. Better luck next time.
