Thai Sailor Destroys Khaotom Stall on Sukhumvit Road Near Pattaya

One of Thailand’s most successful sailors, who competed in the 2012 London Olympics, was involved in a road accident which left two people seriously injured.

The sailor Khun Keerati aged 22, who is currently training for the 17th Asean Games which will be held in South Korea next month may be very skilled whilst under sail navigating an Olympic course however failed to negotiate a bend in Sukhumvit Road. His vehicle a Mitsubishi Trident swerved off the road and crashed into a busy roadside Khaotom stall.

Police and rescue units from The Sawang Rojanatham Foundation rushed to the scene at the 175km marker on Sukhumvit road in Sattahip District. The pick-up had ploughed into 5 parked motorcycles and tables where diners were enjoying their bowls of rice porridge.

Rescue workers first task was to sort out the injured from the wreckage, give first aid and then transport the most seriously injured victims Khun Gitsada aged 39 and Khun Rut aged 22 to The Queeb Sirikit Hospital in Sattahip for further emergency treatment.

Many other lucky patrons had managed to leap for their lives and were stood around very angry and very hungry. Khun Keerati admitted that he had made a mistake and immediately offered to pay for damages and for medical treatment for the injured.

As an Olympic athlete I wonder how many hundreds of hours Khun Keerati has trained to compete in the open sea and how many minutes he trained to drive a lethal machine on a busy highway.
