Fatality and Multiple Casualties on Route 7 Near Pattaya as Crane Falls on Vans

Sriracha Highway patrol police were first at the scene of an accident involving multiple casualties on Route 7 near Pattaya. Multiple units of The Sawang Pratheep Rescue Foundation were called on to provide assistance and transport the victims.

A large mobile crane had toppled over and hit two commuter mini-vans. The crane was embedded in the cab of one of the vans. Khun Santi aged 45 was the driver of the crushed van he had to be extracated and was declared dead at the scene due to a broken neck.

Five passengers were injured three of them of Japanese nationality. Some were seriously hurt and were transported immediately to Sriracha Hospital for emergency treatment.

Police interviewed the crane driver Khun Sompong. He explained that he operating the crane to move concrete sections on the construction of the Nong Kham-Laem Chabang Flyover. It was a windy day and as he lifted a length of concrete his rig was fully extended and fell over into the opposite carriageway and onto the two vans that were travelling towards Pattaya.
