TukCom South Pattaya Raided

Senior Pattaya Police officers and a squad of about 50 enforcement officers from from the Police Region 2 Intellectual Property Rights Unit were called upon to conduct a raid of the Tuk Com IT Center on South Pattaya Road.

Apparantly they had received complaints from local Thai residents and foreigners that shop holders had been selling cheap mobile phones. They had then realised that they had been duped and the 20,000 Baht iPhones and Samsung Galaxies that they had paid 5,000 Baht for were actually counterfeited - what a surprise!!

26 operators and shop assistants were busted, 351 fake smart phones were seized worth over a million Baht - not sure if that is the real price for the real phones or the fake price for the fake phones.

The Commander of the task force emphasised that they would not stand for folks selling fake goods in Pattaya whether it was fake clothes, fake watches or electronic items. This trade in smuggled goods from abroad to sell to duped tourists would only serve to bring the city inro dissrepute.

No mention was made of the selling of Fake services by fake women on Baeach Road - but that's another storey.
