Baan Bung Tomb Raiders in Pattaya

Members of the media were sent on a spooky assignment last week at a cemetery in Baan Bung District. Journalists were given a guided tour of the cemetery that covers over 40 Rai of land by the keeper of the cemetery Khun Arak aged 41. In Thailand Buddhists cremate their deceased relatives. There are many people who have Chinese ancestry who's tradition is to inter their loved ones in tombs.

These tombs are usually ornately decorated with surviving relatives visiting frequently to offer gifts to their ancestors. These gifts include gold leaf which is liberally spread around the tomb. Over the years this gold accumalates and under the cover of darkness by the light of a full moon they stalk the cemeteries scraping off the gold and making off with their ghoulish gold stash.

With the price of gold being so high and the tomb raiders morals being so low it is thought that 3-4 million Baht worth of gold has been stolen from this one cemetery alone.

Reports to the police have been made about these thefts. Gold shops in the area have been put on alert to look out for dodgy looking characters with protruding Dracula like teeth and maybe wolf like appearance handing over stashes of gold with grubby yet gold coloured fingers.
