Pattaya City Hall Flood Prevention Meeting

As the monsoon season has arrived with vengeance in Pattayav this year and heavy rains are becoming a daily event it is comforting to know that Pattaya City Council is on the ball.

Khun Itthipol The Mayor of Pattaya presided over an important meeting at Pattaya City Hall to discuss and analyse the causes of flooding and the measures to prevent and alleviate flooding problems in the Pattaya area. The meeting was attended by Khun Pakorn a senior Pattaya Council official, Dr. Sophon an expert in flooding from a Bangkok University and a number of local officials and community representatives and organisations.

Various proposals have been put forward to fix the problem that resulted in major inconveniences to local citizens last year who learnt how easily cars could float. Have no fear Khun Itthipol and Pattaya Council are near. Surveys have been done and plans drawn up. It was now the time for action to decide which plan and which survey was more meritous.

Top of the list of topics for the meeting was the division of the are into nine zones. The Construction of sewer networks and pumping stations that will require a budget of 7.7 billion baht to be spent over several years. Canals to be upgraded and ponds dug to store water overflows in the event of flash flooding in the Soi Khao Talo area with a budget of around 1.9 million Baht.

These and other measures would be done speedily and would only take 9 years to be completed. Meanwhile stock up on packamacs, wellies and inflatable dinghies here comes the rain.
