Pattaya Scam Artist

Members of the media were informed by a maid Khun Raphon of a a fraudster who was running a scam to defraud people who were living in the Pattaya apartment block where she works. At the apartment block, Baan Ek Apartments part of her duties was to collect money from tenants for the rent. She had been conned into handing over more than 30,000 Baht to the scam artist who claimed to represent the wealthy owners of the apartment block.

At about 8 Am on the 10th of August a woman aged about 28 had arrived at he apartments by motorcycle taxi and said she had come to collect the rent money and take it to the owners. The maid and her husband were busy cleaning inside the apartments at the time and came out to talk to the woman.

The maid explained to the woman that she did not have the money on her at the moment. However the woman was insistent that this must be paid right now and proceeded to make a simulated phone call to the owners. Eventually the maid agreed to go to the ATM and withdraw the 30,000 Baht and naively handed it over to the woman she had never seen before and more than likely will never see again.

She explained that she realised that she had been foolish and naive but wanted to warn other people so that they would not be duped in the same manner. CCTV cameras had captured images of the scam artist and she had passed on these reports to the police and asked the media to publish and broadcast the images in the hope that someone may recognise her.
