Pattaya Bank Robber Arrested

At the Diamond Hall meeting room at the Ambassador Hotel Na Jomtien a press conference was held to announce the arrest of the bank robber who had struck the Assumption Sriracha branch of The Bangkok bank earlier this month. The press conference was hosted by Police Bureau Region 2 Commander Police Lieutenant Colonel Winay, along with Police Colonel Tanit of the Sri Racha Police and other investigating officers who had been involved in the case.

They annonced the arrest of a Mr. Sutthipong aged 24 who had allegedly held up the Bangkok Bank branch at gunpoint on the 8th of August. They also announced the seizure of 18,220 Baht and an iPhone mobile phone.

Police alleged that Mr. Sutthipong entered the Assumption branch of the Bangkok Bank Sri Racha at 1.30 pm on the 8th of August wearing a full face motorcycle helmet and armed with a gun. He robbed staff at the bank of 108,000 Baht in cash and then fled on a motorcycle.

Vigilant staff at the Bank had taken note of the registration number of the motorcycle and had even tried to follow the thief as he left the bank and made his escape. The Police later found the motorcycle abandoned in Surasak district along with the equipment used in the robbery. Also found was part of the cash haul stolen amounting to 53,000 Baht. From the registration plates they were able to obtain an address in Nong Kham district where they subsequently made the arrest of Mr. Sutthipong.

After questioning Mr Sutthipong had confessed to the robbery and said that he needed the money to raise funds to marry his girlfriend. He had no idea of how much he had taken and didn't know about the money that was left when he had abandoned the motorcycle used in the robbery.

With the press conference now over Mr. Sutthipong was taken away by the arresting officers and it seams that after prosecution it could be a long time before he gets chance to marry his sweetheart.
