Cycling for Health in Pattaya

At 8.30 on the 8th of August at Nongplalai district the mayor of Nongplalai Mr. Pinyoo presided at an opening ceremony to launch a health campaign called "Cycling for Health" which is timed to coincide and to show honour and respect to her majesty Queen Sirikit who celebrates her birthday this weekend.

Joining in the ceremony were district officials and administration staff, school directors and students from various schools in Nongplalai district. At the ceremony traditional patriotic Thai songs were on offer showing support for Thailand and the Thai monarchy as well of course the Thai national anthem.

The aims of the Cycling for Health campaign are twofold. Firstly to encourage children and citizens to get on their bikes and get some exercise which is good for their body and secondly whilst cycling to gather up rubbish and hand it in to recycling centres which is good for the environment. Citizens who hand in rubbish will be rewarded with health food like eggs and vegetables and money generated by the recycling scheme will be donated to local temples.
