Cambodian Workers Killed, Others Injured in Shooting Which Caused Truck Crash

Police and rescue services converged on the scene of pure chaos in Baan Bo Thong district of Chonburi. A pick-up truck carrying Cambodian workers had overturned. One Cambodian man was found dead at the scene and 11 other workers were given first aid at the scene and then transported to hospital for further emergency treatment.

Also near the scene was an 11 year old girl who had sustained a gunshot wound to her elbow. She was also treated and transported to hospital. She said that she had seen the pick-up driving at high speed and being pursued by a  white car. Shots rang out from the white car and the pick-up lost control and overturned.

Witnesses from the victims in the pick-up confirmed this story. They said that they were on their way from Rayong Province to Sakeaw Province ready to return back to their homes in Cambodia. Occupants who they described as looking like policemen had tried to stop their vehicle but the driver refused to stop and sped off at high speed with the white car in pursuit. Shots were fired resulting in the crash and the 11 year old bystander being shot in the crossfire.

Police are continuing to take statements and have gathered evidence from the scene including a number of 9mm shell casings. They are also looking at CCTV film taken from a camera positioned outside a grocery store near the scene.
